Health: Walking Vs Transport

It’s a gentle, low-impact form of exercise that’s easy, free and suitable for people of all ages and most abilities.

Hellllllllo People...

In this post I will be sharing with you a couple of reasons as to why walking is very healthy and essentially very good for you. Now we all tend to not walk out as much in the Autumn/Winter months because of the cold/wet weather but however that is not a good enough excuse because honestly if you layer up really well with your clothing when the weather is very cold and you carry with you an umbrella when it rains then you can still manage to get some walking done. Obviously there will be better days when you can do a lot more walking because the weather is more pleasant out which honestly is the best time to increase your walking.

Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and become healthier.

Did you know that you can also save a lot of money in the long run by taking regular walks, think about it, say you wanted to go to your local shopping centre but instead of walking you took the bus every time which obviously is a bit of money which adds up over time making it much harder for you to save money. However on the other hand say now every time instead of taking the bus/car you decided to walk to your local shopping centre, just imagine how much money you'd save over time. Transport is a money eater so watch out whether it be bus, train or even your own car that your using to get around regularly, sometimes it just better to walk especially if it's a short distance like a 10, 20 or even 30 minute walk. Walking over using any transport is better for you in the long run both health and money wise.

Walk Your Way To Health, Forget The Transport...

My Tip: Start of by taking small/short walks as opposed to long tiresome walks because as time goes on you'll be able to increase your walking distance...

Staying Motivated:
Make it a habit:
The easiest way to walk more is to make walking a habit. Think of ways to include walking into your daily routine. Examples include:

  • Walk part of your journey to work/school.
  • Walk to the shops.
  • Use the stairs instead of the lift.
  • Leave the car behind for short journeys.
  • Walk the kids to school.
  • Do a regular walk with a friend.
  • Go for a stroll with family or friends after dinner.

For short journeys, walking is quick and reliable, with very few interruptions. Also most of the time it will always take the same amount of time as taking a bus/car. It's underrated as a form of exercise but walking is ideal for people of all ages and fitness levels who want to be more active. Regular walking has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, asthma, stroke and some cancers.
